The Battle of Seattle: The New Challenge to Capitalist Globalization
Published in Paperback by Soft Skull Press, Inc. (February, 2002)
Average review score:

Diverse collection of viewpoints...This collection of articles, essays and interviews is rather diverse, with topics ranging from the longtime worldwide movement against capitalist globalization to more specific events revolving around the protests in Seattle. What I've come to appreciate most about the book is that it comes across rather critical of the movement with several essays detailing some of the shortcomings of the movement and its lack of organization amongst the different active groups, while at the same time not really taking away from their cause, hopefully lending to it by shedding light on what can be done in the future to be more successful.

The City Gardener's Cookbook: Totally Fresh, Mostly Vegetarian, Decidedly Delicious Recipes from Seattle's P-Patches
Published in Paperback by Sasquatch Books (March, 1997)
Average review score:

cook what you growEven if you've only got a deck, this book will encourage you to pick up all those fantastic veggies at the Farmers Market that you had to leave behind before! Written by a group of city gardeners, its' more than a cook book. The recipes are delicious and unusual, and if you want to grow your own veggies they throw in all sorts of helpful hints.

Clueless in Seattle
Published in Paperback by Offbyone Pr (July, 1995)
Average review score:

A truely twisted technogeek with a sense of humorThis book is excellent bathroom or airplane reading. The author
dissects and exaggerates various personality types all of us have seen or been
at one time or another in our lives. It is an antidote to the ultrasweetness of Sleepless
in Seattle (which the hopeless romantic in me actually enjoyed). This book may annoy some, but
for those with a bizarre sense of the comical in man/woman interactions, this is a must read.
I have recommended it to by brightest, weirdest, single friends---you should too!

Fodor's Citypack Seattle (Citypack)
Published in Paperback by Fodors Travel Pubns (February, 1999)
Average review score:

Great presentation - but light on contentThis pocket guide is extremely well-organized and easy to follow providing info bites and color maps for several popular Seattle tourist sites. My only wish is that the Excursions and What's On sections would be expanded to include the many popular attractions in the vicinity (Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, Snoqualmie Falls, San Juan Islands, etc.) Also, the Neighborhoods section is incomplete. Overall, this guide is extremely well done but could have benefited from about 20 more pages of content.

Fodor's Seattle & Vancouver 2000
Published in Paperback by Fodors Travel Pubns (January, 1900)
Average review score:

Fodor's Seattle & Vancouver 2000I received my copy of Fodor's Seattle & Vancouver 2000 less than a week ago - we now have airline tickets, reservations in Vancouver and Vancouver Island and Salt Spring Island - and hate that our trip is four months away! The book was invaluable - much is already marked and underlined. Having a separate map for lodging and dining is very helpful - plus we have found Fodor's suggestions for "walking" trips extremely helpful and accurate for trips to Europe and out West. Many of the places where we have reservations also have sites on the Internet - it would have been helpful if those addresses were listed in the book. I'm sure that will soon be happening. I had the recent copy of Gourmet's issue which focused on the best of restaurants - and the Fodor's comments were compatible - right on target! Overall, the book was excellent - but since we will spend more of our time on Vanvouver Island, I wish more detail was given about it.

Going Crazy in Public: A Mac Fontana Mystery
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (June, 1996)
Average review score:

Goin Crazy in Staircase once again offers entertaining cast.In this fourth volume of the Mac Fontana series, Earl Emerson offers up an entertaining cast of offbeat characters and fast paced storyline. This time around the story revolves around a copy-cat arsonist who is setting fires in Staircase. Nearby Seattle also has an arsonist on their hands. Mac has to solve this mystery whilst protecting his own son, battling small time politics, romancing a celebrity in hiding, catching dog killers, keeping an eye on power hungry safety directors and putting out fires in and around town, including false alarms at the local nudist colony.
This Mac Fontana is good, but not as good as Morons and Madmen, or even Black Hearts and Slow Dancing. However, it is still a lot of fun and Emerson has once again written another winner.

A Hopeless Case: A Mystery Novel
Published in Hardcover by Mysterious Press (May, 1992)
Average review score:

So Much Mystery FunJane da Silva is such a super gal. This, the first in the series sets her attitudes and why she has become a "pro bono" sleuth. She is a Seattlite that escaped to South America and Europe before finally coming home to Uncle Harold's trust fund. These stories are human, and you come to like Jane and all the interesting people she runs into.
I was sad to see all her books are not quickly available. They are worth the time to find!
